The Morgantown Sound is a weekly radio show featuring regional artists performing original music. It is broadcast live as it happens from the U92 studios every Monday evening from 8pm to 10pm on U92.
The Morgantown Sound has been broadcast on U92 since the mid 1980s. It began as a show that featured local musician's recordings and an occasional live acoustic performance. Since 1994, the show has been mostly live bands. During our off season, the show reverts back to pre-recorded music.
Morgantown has had the blessing of a good strong music scene for many years. The Recipe, Circle Six, Karma To Burn, The Bare Feet & Co. and the Joint Chiefs (all from Morgantown) have built, in recent times, followings around the region (Karma To Burn has fans in Europe as well). There are many other great bands here who hope to emerge soon. The reasons for the abundance of talent are many, and together they produce a healthy environment for musical creativity.
In keeping with our motto, "The NewMusic Pioneer", U92's Morgantown Sound has been a venue for emerging and established artists to perform their original music to a college town full of hungry young minds. The show has been quite successful at bringing artist and listener together in a good setting and also for encouraging musical talent by providing a place to perform.
